combining fabrics
I am making dorm quilts and using up some fabrics on hand. I have cotton fabric for the top of the quilt and the perfect color for the back, but it is flannel. If I combine the two, will the flannel back eventually shrink and distort the quilt? It is a small quilt, for a twin bed. I usually don't prewash the fabric, I know there is a difference of opinion on that. Anyway, I really want to use this flannel peice, it is the perfect color for what I am doing, any advice? Thanks

Re: combining fabrics
It might shrink - but quilts are to have that used look! I have combined the two successfully many times and they are snuggy and warm!

I have used flannel for the backs of many, especially kids ones but I always prewash everything. I would prewash the flannel for sure just to make sure it doesn't shrink too much and it mess up your beautiful hard work, that would be a very sad thing. Just my 2 cents worth.

Even the best flannel shrinks, so it does need to be washed. I bought some from QIAD and it was very good flannel and it shrunk as much as 3 inches.

I LOVE to use flannel on the back of lap or childrens quilts or anything that is going to be hugged !!! I always buy top quality and have never had a shrinkage problem. If you are worried just give it a quick dunk and put in the dryer. You should have no problem.
