black and white jelly roll

Post by Ricksbabe » Thu Feb 03, 2011 8:09 am

Good afternoon all I need some suggestions. I recently bought some jelly rolls that are black and white only with different designs for a quilt for my 17 year old DD1. Now here is the question since they are only black and white (her favorite colors) what is the best pattern to use for a quilt?

Thanks in advance for your help with this puzzling matter.

My DD (24) is making a quilt using the Summer porch pattern for herself out of black and pink and it is looking pretty awesome, she found a black and pink material for the lattice and it really pops!

I am currently making a black and white pineapple pattern quilt. I added a red square in the center to give it some pizzaz!! Love the look.

I did a black and white table runner a few yrs ago. I don't think I have a pic of it anywhere. But it was just strips in various black and white patterns. The strips were mostly black on white. Then the pattern called for circles in white on black. The pattern was "punched" up with a red border but my friend only wanted black and white so used a solid black border. A teal looks really pretty with black and white too. A touch of color makes it all pop.

Good luck finding the perfect pattern. I recently saw a pretty quilt like that in a mag but don't remember where or what mag. With black or white sashing, any block would be pretty. Post a pic when you get it finished. Fun challenge.

Hugs, Shirley Mae

What about Chinese Stacked coins? It's perfect for Jelly Rolls.
Check out this link. It's for a baby quilt but you can enlarge it.

I also did a black & white pattern called Tango's Star. I put a photo of my black/white cat, "Tango", in the center and then added a very narrow red border. It made it pop! I put a photo of it on here a few years ago.

I believe that QIAD's "Twice as Nice" pattern calls for stips..or Jelly Rolls...check out the "Twice as Nice" thread with pictures under the first thread of El's patterns/books called "El's Corner"! It's a very versital (sp?) pattern and easy, too!
