Borders, Borders, Borders...UGH

I have been trying to figure this out... Is it ok to join border pieces together if they need to be longer than the WOF and will it show a whole lot on the finished quilt?

I join border pieces together all the time. I do try to stagger where the seam is so if it is on the 'left' side on one edge, it will be the opposite on the other.

It is ok to join Border pieces together to make them longer or whatever you need to do. Remember also, this is your Quilt and it can be whatever you want it to be.

ok because the pattern ask for 1 1/8 yard of border fabric wich eqauls 40.5 inches and i says to cut 56 1/2 and 50 1/2 inch border stips and im like you cant posibly get that from 40 1/2 inches and it doesn't say to join strips together so i dont know if its a misprint or what to do

yes it is OK - I have seamed many borders and do it with a miter(45 degree) seam - hides better than a straight one

I join mine when ever needed. The quilt police won't come and get you. I find that if you press really well it'll look fine.

Sometimes I will cut length of fabric instead of width so I don't have to join. Especially if I'm fussy cutting something like florals.

I always purchase enough fabric to cut my borders length of fabric (with the grain, not cross) this way I never have any issues with the borders stretching or rippling. I just use the left overs to add to my stash. I have seamed with a miter, but mostly on the narrow borders. Like the 2 inch or less size. It works for me.

I'm with the length of fabric border people. I learned years ago to cut the borders on the straight of grain..no rippling or wavy edges. And I always tear, not cut them.

Just reading and want to thank everyone for sharing what they know. I'm new at quilting and having a great time, but am I ever ignorant!
