Rag Quilt Fabrics

Thanks for your advice and help.

Our son was married in August. His new wife asked me to do a lot of sewing for the wedding which I was very happy to do. One of the projects was to make 12" squares for the tables at the reception. Each table had an orange square and green print square. If I remember correctly, I made 50 squares of each fabric. After the reception, I collected all those squares and brought them home with the intention of using them to make a quilt for the new couple.

Since our new daughter-in-law is from Ohio, I thought about using the Ohio Star pattern. I was wondering if it would be possible to sew a rag quilt using the cotton fabric. I've made rag quilts in the past using flannel. Would the cotton ravel just as well?

Thanks again for your help.

What a neat idea! I've made several rag quilts from flannel, but none from regular cotton, but I've heard of people doing that successfully. Thank you for bringing this up...you've planted a "seed" and I may just do this, too! I love rag quilts...so easy and neat results!

They do work - just clip a little closer and more often to get them to rag!

Thanks to all of you for your help and suggestions. I'm going to try the rag quilt in the Ohio Star pattern. I'll be sure to send a photo when it's finished, but it will be after the first of the year before I'll get started. Maybe it will be their first anniversary gift.

Thanks again.
