Hi Everybody

HELP--, Next Sunday I am giving a lecture on Novelty fabrics(really just show and tell)and I need to know two things:

1. How do they put the images on the fabric at the factory is it stenciled, woven, stamped, etc?

2. Why do they call it Novlety a fabric. I know what novelty means but why was that word chosen?

Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated.

Best shot - go to Wikipedia - they probably have your best answer -

from working in fabrics shops over many years - the Novelty prints are just that - they are printed on the fabric - in many passes - adding a color at time.

On the side of each printed fabric is a color key to what colors are used in that piece - it is the dots on the selvedge edge of the fabric - it is great - it gives you hints on what colors will be best in the quilt that are piecing together.

About all that are left that are woven in colors are ginghams and homespuns

Good luck
