I AM ALSO GETTING READY TO QUILT MY IRISH CHAIN. I PUT SHAMROCKS ON THE CORNERS BLOCKS,( THE ONE IN ELEANOR HAS IN HER BOOK) AND I AM GOING TO QUILT THE SHAMROCK FROM HER BOOK IN THE PLAIN BLOCKS AND I AM THINKING OF EITHER STITCH OR STIPPLING THE REST. I AM GOING TO MACHINE QUILT IT ON MY MACHINE SO I HOPE IT WORKS. GOOD LUCK

I did a double Irish chain years ago and I did channel quilting in the chains straight across the diagnals, and then used thr heart template from the quilting primer book as it was a wedding gift. I could have done echo quilting but it was one of my first big machine quilting projects. I hope this gave you some ideas. BTW I have an all green dbl irish chain and I am planning on using the shamrock template. I was consideing using fall colors in one and use a maple leaf template. Just some ideas

I, too, have quilted a double Irish Chain. In the small colors it is easy to sew diagonally through the blocks. You could even an make "X" in each small colored square if you choose. Enjoy deciding!
