Re: 3 new books
hi Elise,
I have found with El's books... if you sit down and follow the directions... you will do fine... press when she says to press... cut where she says to cut and sew where she says to sew... I would start with the trip around the world...and end up with the radiant star..

Elise, if you are a beginner, I wouldn't take on the Radiant Star! It is a very challenging quilt. I made a lap size for my SIL and it was tough matching up the points, even doing it El's way. I had been sewing for decades and quilting for about 2 years when I made it. I needed some serious encouragement and assistance to finish it. I think Quiltsmart makes a Radiant Star pattern that is an easier technique.
My SIL, the wretch, has since redecorated her bedroom...aieeee! So I am making her a new quilt in browns, golds, and blue to go with. She is SO lucky I love her so much, otherwise she'd be on her own! LOL! I told her I would make her a new quilt, but NOT the Radiant Star AGAIN. (The new one is Eleanor's "Cornerstones of My Life" and is coming together lickety-split!)

Re: 3 new books
I have made Trip Around the World quilt. I took a class last year with El and we were given precut kits. But I was able to sew all my stip sets, cut them into second strip set and had one half of the quilt totally pieced by the end of the class. I should tell you I am not the most focused person and always do a bit of socializing in a class. In addition we took time out to get advice from Eleanor and listen to some of her stories. I think that next to log cabin, this is probably one of the easiest quilts I have ever made. Only need to worry about matching stuff on one seam. I can honestly say that I could easily piece this quilt in a day.

I did the Radiant Star and must say when I take on this quilt again I will be a lot more diligent and careful in my sewing. The one I did turned out pretty good and my brother just loves it. I tied it and hid the little mismatches in the points. I've also done Trip Around the World. It's fairly straigt forward...I just had to really pay attention with keeping my strips organized..
Good luck,
Maggie

I got the material for the trip quilt and I hope I didn't bit off more than I can chew. It's going to be a queen size can it be confusing? Just asking before I start. URG HELP
