Pinwheels To Meet in Center of Block

I am working on a quilt with 12 1/2" and 10 1/2" blocks in which there are half square triangles meeting at the center as in a pinwheel. I have completed five blocks and only one meets perfectly in the center. My grandaughter, for whom I am making this quilt, will not notice, but I will. My quilting friends noticed that I was off a smidgen. I have measured every piece as I was sewing and was careful to use the same size seams in all the blocks.
What am I doing wrong? Does anyone have a tip to help me???

My tip is to quit hanging around with the quilt police - LOL. Seriously, someone here may be able to help you. Mine are sometimes a smidge off, too, but I haven't done that many pin wheels - just on the dogs quilt top.

stash37, I made an entire pin wheel quilt and, like you, some of them "met" and some didn't! Wish I could help, but I did the pin thing and the smoosh the seams together, but I haven't a clue why! lol!
cindyg you are a riot! But you are right! Absolutely NO ONE has ever noticed my "off" center pin wheels EXCEPT ME! LOL!

quilt police drive me nuts...they noticed you were off but did they offer the show you how to make them meet up?
Caroline can't wait to see your tutorial, I took a class last summer at Long Beach and the instructor showed me that the ones I said looked off was caused by my pressing not my sewing.

If you don't like Cindy's advice (I do), then you could put a yo-yo at each of the centers and then NO ONE (not even the quilt police) will know that your centers don't match!
Do like I do, if the recipient isn't going to notice it, and you've tried your best, that is all you can do. Don't kill yourself over it. You will get better at it the more you practice it.
I'm sure your GD will enjoy it simply because YOU made it.
Keep stitchn,
Jan

I agree with Cindy and shame on your "friends" for noticing....I would have just told you how beautiful it was and that would be it.

Stash, when your "friends get that picky, it's time for new friends.... AND here we are.......LOL
I have the same problem you have. I measure, measure and measure again and still some blocks won't meet. Just tell those picky friends it gives the blocks character if they don't match.....LOL
I tell my friends that my quilts have character because it's made by one... (me) LOL

I appreciate all of your comments. I am making my first quilt, a Pink Ribbon Quilt with pinwheels and I have been hesitant about those points. Most of them fit fine but....the perfect police do make me nervous! I will go down and press the ones I made today and just move ahead!! Thanks.
