I am working on my largest piece yet - only 18 inches square, and I have some questions on techniques.It's a small checkerboard quilt.

I've read that you should always bring the bobbin thread to the top so you can hold both threads when you start sewing. My question is what do you so with the thread when you are done quilting? Do you pull them to the back and knot?

Should I do a lockstitch once I pull the threads to the top and then cut off the thread from the front? Do I lockstitch at the end?

You can tie a not near the fabric and then thread a needle and pull the knot inbetween the layers like you do with hand quilting. My machine has a fix stitch that it does so you can just cut it close to the fabric.

I have started pulling the bobbin thread to the top, then make some lock stitches. My Bernina 440 has a button for that, it does 6 or 7 stitches. I lock stitch at the end and cut the threads.
