A genuine question:

If you could get a subscription to a quilting magazine, but just 1, what would you get? I don't have any and would like to get one, so any comments, suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks bundles, carol/kittyquilt

Quiltmaker is pretty nice. They not only have patterns, but actual quilting designs you can use on the quilt. I take it all the time now & love it...

I've had them all at one time or another. Right now I only get Fons and Porter's magazine. Really most of the quilt magazines seem to have the same patterns. QNN use to be the best for quilting articles but it's changed a lot over the past few years. I keep up with the quilting news and new patterns on the internet, this forum, and the quilting blogs.

I let all my subscriptions expire. With the internet, I feel I can get more patterns and info than having to deal with all the ads and then what to do with the mag a few years later. It is nice to sit and browse thru them though.

If you want patterns, I'd go w/ Quilter's Newsletter. For really great articles, humor and maybe a recipe or two, I LOVE Quilter's Home. This is the only subscription I will renew.

Great question and one I was thinking of asking too. I was getting Fon's & Porter's for the last few years, but I've decided to try Better Homes & Gardens now, plus it was cheaper. I don't know how they compare yet. The only thing I might miss from Fon's & Porter's is that sometimes their TV show uses patterns in their magazines, but I have yet to make any. I also like to pick up various back issues at my LQS for 50%. All of the magazines have something interesting in them.

I have had quite a few, but don't get any now. So far, I don't miss them. I think they are a good investment when you're getting started.

I think it depends on what you like as well. I got Fons&Porter, but they do a lot of applique and I wasn't into that. I liked Quiltmaker, I think they gave lots of pictures on cutting (which is what I was stuck on for a while). Then, I decided just having it come to me was nice, until I could find more info online. I let them all expire too.
