I have an embroidery machine, and have made about 12 little embroidery squares to make a twin-size quilt for my little grandson who is almost 3. The squares are all little cars, trucks, planes, boats, etc, and I made each square 10 ". But now I am trying to figure a pattern to use for the alternating blocks, to add to the size. Any ideas? I was thinking of making the embroidery squares as snowball squares (sewing triangles in each corner), but I am at a lost as to a pattern - other than just with sashing. I was going to do that originally, but it would not be very big then.
Any ideas??? thank you so much
joan

I made a quilt with the snowball block and the alternating blocks were x's. It was really cute with the "hugs and kisses" pattern. I have an embroidery machine too and always think I'm going to make an embroidered quilt, but haven't done it yet. Thanks for inspiring me.

I like the x idea. You could also make the alternating blocks a 4 patch - or 9 patch. It would still be easy, but would make the quilt larger. I've seen some really attractive quilts made like that.

Fons & Porter had a show on Rocky Mtn PBS yesterday, called Monsters in my Closet, that was a quilt with doors on it. When you open a door, there was a fabric with animals or cars or whatever. You could use your squares behind the doors. It was cute and pretty easy. Just checked and it's show #1105. It's not listed on QNNtv yet, must be too new. Check your PBS station. The pattern is in "Fun Quilts For Kids Of All Ages" put out by Fons & Porter.
Hope this helps!

You could also do them like a log cabin block, add a strip, turn it, add a strip, turn it, till each side has at least one strip of border, & do each strip in a different color, then go from there. I did this on a coffee quilt recently, with colors in the cup designs & it turned out real cute.
