How to remove lines

I agreed to make a top for a friend from embroideried blocks she has from a late relative. The outer part has three lines and I really need to get rid of them to be able to use some of the area. Someone told me to soak them overnight in cold water. Well, two nights soaking later, the lines are still the same. I have never quilted with blocks like this, I am a piece the blocks person. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks in advance

What are the lines? Pencil lines or fold lines?

They are the blue printed lines like the ones the lady embroidered over only this are on the outer edges of the block and I cannot get the blocks squared without some lines showing unless I can get rid of them. I know some quilters work with these type blocks all the time, but I never have used them.

imho they should 'wash out' as long as they have not been ironed. The heat from an iron might set the lines, but they should wash out if you agitate them gently with a bit of laundry soap.

I agree - if it's that embroidery blue printing then it should come out when you wash it.

I think they should come out with washing, too. If not and it's white fabric, try a Q-tip dipped in watered down bleach. Of course, test first on a scrap piece to see if it works.

Maybe. I wonder how old they are. I bet El would know how to get them out. If all else fails, maybe you could pm Linda.

You can also try adding oxyclean to the water you are soaking them in - I did that with ballpoint pen lines and after several hours, they came out.
