Oh crap---another WIM!
Greetings fellow quilting junkies...
Ya know, sometimes I wish my brain would take a short vacation. Seems that just when I am finishing up one project, an idea for another comes creeping in.
I am grateful to have been blessed with creativity, skill, and patience (even when they wear thin and I screw up and get frustrated). BUT when I get a "bee in my ear" with regard to a new project, it can become almost an obsession. I will wake up first thing in the morning thinking about it; sometimes I will sew in my dreams. I feel restless and unsettled until I am able to make some progress on it.
I had decided NOT to start anything new until I had worked on some UFOs. I have counted cross-stitch projects, clothing in progress, alterations to be done, as well as a few quilting UFOs to work on. Unfortunately, I have come up with the idea of making a wall quilt for a friend...I did a rough sketch last night: two houses, one on either side, with the German and United States flags between them.
Birgit and I met as penpals in the late 1970's and we are still in touch. She was here earlier this week, vacationing with her family; our families had a wonderful time together! They have invited us to come to Germany to see them. My great-grandfather came over from Germany; I would love to see his homeland! I would also really enjoy making something special for my friend's home. Now I can't get the idea out of my mind...I know it is going to bug me until I can brainstorm it.
Laundry and dishes can wait! Must quilt...must quilt...must quilt...

Sounds like a wonderful project. I would also be doing it other than dishes.
How is your new house plans and property coming along?

The house project has hit some major snags due to unexpected government FEES no one thought to warn us about...we are trying to find the funds to finish, since we have gone too far to turn back. It's very frustrating.
Thanks for asking. Wish I had good news to share.

Re: Oh crap---another WIM!
A couple of years ago I had the fabric (from stash), design and recepient in mind for a new quilt, but declded I needed to get something else done first -- can't remember what now. Drove me crazy that I wasn't allowing myself to start the new quilt. Finally decided I could start it after the 1st of the year - regardless if I had my other stuff done. That was the toughest 6 - 8 weeks. Decided then, that if I wanted to start something new I could. Hum, do you think that contributes to my WIP/UFO list?

I am the same way. When I have a project in my mind, I just cannot go to sleep. I lay there working it all out in my head. I dream quilts. LOL Sometimes my brain just won't shut down. On those nights, I might as well get up and get to work on it. LOL

Whew, sounds like I am not the only one who gets obsessed from time to time. Thank goodness!
Update on the project for my friend: I chose to make her a small wall quilt from a book I have here, "Wall Quilts for All", with designs by Chris Malone. See when I have a plan and instructions, I finish things much faster...so Birgit gets one of these for now, and perhaps one day I will make her something else of my own design.
Birgit loves to garden, so I found a garden-y design. I chose El's Victory Garden fabrics (had a bunch of FQs in my stash), mixed with a few non-QIAD fabrics. I spent yesterday messing around with it. It's turning out really cute; I hope she likes it!
