I have some pre cut baseball fabric squares,4.5 inches that I want to make into a quilt for another grandson. I have red white and blue ones. Any ideas for an attractive layout??? I just dont feel like dealing with HSTs right now,so Im trying to use them as is. I just need a good layout.

Sounds like a great idea to use the squares as the center for log cabin blocks, just my opinion. carol/kittyquilt

How about a tossed nine patch? It doesn't matter what size the squares are as long as they are all the same size. Use a neutral for the center block since it gets chopped into four pieces. Something like stars with either a blue or red background would be good.

How about trying the squares as the bases in a diamond shape.

I like the idea of using the squares as the center for log cabin blocks, too. That's the first thing I thought of - good idea Kittyquilt.

I'm not extremely creative but the first thing I though of was snowballs. Maybe with a 9 patch as an alternate block.

I like the log cabin idea. Maybe graduate the size of the strips as you go out. The good ole log cabin is the one I like to use when I just want to sew but not think about it too much. LOL

I have lots of baseball material also. I've been collecting them for my office - I have lots of Cal Ripken of the Baltimore Orioles memorobilia and thought I'd do something in the office/guest bed in baseball stuff.
Caroline - take a look at the post I made under tossed 9 patch. Maybe if you used the baseball print for the larger squares and the blues or reds for the square/strips that get cut, it might work out.
