How to lay out a Bow tie quilt help needed

Post by quiltwithmom » Wed Mar 26, 2008 3:41 am

Hi
I have a few small squares of bow ties and have them laying on the floor. Should I use sashing to make the blocks stand out and make the quilt larger. It will measures about 36/38 x 48/50 right now. I only make lap quilts or twin anyway so the size is fine. Just wondering what some of you think about sashing between the blocks.
Kathy THANKS!

Kathy, I *really* like the look of the bowties on point, put together without sashing. Can you make a few more to enlarge the top, maybe adding one row along each side?
The color layout in the picture looks really nice! I wouldn't change it myself...

I'm with Carole - no sashing. Love the secondary look you get with them on point.

WOW, I'm surprised! Everyone thinks it is fine without sashing. I guess I figured I needed to seperate the squares with something. It does look good to me without sashing but I always add it.

CaroleJ, yes I sure can make a few more. These are all made from scraps. Well, actually, from charm squares that I cut up. I've been sewing these by hand when ever we take a trip. Gives me something to in the evenings. I was cleaning out my project closet and found them. Another UFO to finish! :-) OMG I'll never get these UFOs out of here. That is what I am doing....getting all my UFOs done! One at a time. Baby steps!

Thanks all!

Rommel, ooh, great idea! A piano key border would look real nice with those bow ties...maybe alternate colored and neutral keys...pretty!

What a pretty layout. I agree, No sashing. I love the on point look. Nice choice of colors. Great job. Please post pic when finished with quilt. Should be a really neat looking quilt. Thanks for sharing.
