What are blenders

I am semi new to quilting. I have done a few small projects. I have not taken any classes so some of the terms are not familiar. What would a blender be and when would I use it?

Hmmmm. My impression is that those are fabrics, or fabric colors that blend with the mail fabric or colors of the quilt. But I'm not sure.

I would assume that sunsup description is correct, at least that's what I think they are. Usually they are almost solid colors or may have some tone-on-tone, or just a bit of "marble look" that appears solid. If you look on QIAD website fabrics, they have a category of blenders. They could also nicely be used for backings. Maybe someone else will know more, 'cause I'm not sure of the real definition. BTW, welcome to the wonderful forum of El's Angels. This is a great place to be. carol/kittyquilt

I get Fat Quarters every month as a gift that are blender fabrics. I understand them to be a fabric that has little contrast in the fabric piece itself. It may have different hues of a color or even a design but when you look at the fabric you see it as one color such as the marbled, splotchy, or small designs and it can be used as a solid.
The sites below give definitions of some of the quilting term but none of these had "blenders" in it:

The site below is a video definition of some of the quilting terms and on this site you can get video quilting shows including some of Eleanor Burns Quilt in a day shows and demonstrations. I love this site because I don't get any of her shows on our cable or local TV anymore.

My 2 cents...hope it helps.
