hi all im still having troubles cutting my strips i seem to be getting that horrid v in them any suggestions ?

Have you tried pressing your fabric folds before you cut? I watched on Simply quilts once, you fold it in half and press. Then fold again and press. This is supposed to keep the fabric from shifting.

When you make the second fold (the first fold is the one off the bolt), make sure a line on your ruler lines up with the bottom fold -- AND the original fold. I dont' know if this picture will help or not.

I have read and seen so many ways to cut the fabric so it is square. Some methods work sometimes, sometimes they don't. I use two rulers, one the widest I have and line it up with the bottom fold, then use another ruler butted to that ruler to make my straight edge cut. After several straight cuts I realign and make another even up cut. I have the best luck using the June Taylor Shape Cut ruler for cutting strips.

most of the time when you buy fabric the middle fold is not the "real" middle so I always line up my selvage edges and press the new middle so that when I fold it I know the fold and the selvages are straight then I line them up on a line on my cutting mat and use the lines on my ruler to make sure they line up with the lines on my mat.

thank-you so much this is a problem for me too. I keep pressing and moving the fabric. I will try some of these suggestions.

I just cut my noodle strips and was successful. I opened the fabric up, pressed the bolt fold out and then lined the edges up and re-pressed the fabric with a new fold. then I was able to quickly cut all of the fabric without difficulty
