Do you have a favorite brand of batting that you have used when you tie quilts? I am just finishing a quilt for my 4 year old granddaughter, that I tied. I bought a high loft polyester batting from Walmart, that I wasn't thrilled about.
I would appreciate any opinions you might give me, since I'll probably do another one for my grandson.

hi, I rarely tie my quilts, they are usually quilted by myself or sent out to the longarmer to do. However, my batting of choice is Warm and Natural or Warm and White, it comes 90" wide and is 100% cotton. You would not have to tie it only every 6" apart and it hold up well to washings etc. Thats my choice Marge

I probably would never do a high loft polyester ever again. It doesn't breathe, when a person is under it and really is almost too warm. But, I have used it. My favorite is wool. But, it is too expensive, and so my first real choice is Warm and Natural, and I love the feel of the White and Natural that I can get at JoAnn's.
I usually save a coupon for that. I would buy it when it is on sale, but I am not always near a JoAnn's when it is on sale. The main reason for not using the wool, besides the price, is if it is a gift, the person receiving might not possibly take care of wool as you or I would. It does take some extra care. We have a warm and natural on our king size quilt on our bed right now, and it is really comfortable.

Hi Barb...I'm a tire..."tie"er...oh heck, I tie my quilts! lol I have always used Warm and Natural batting. It does not make "puffy" quilts, but it is lightweight, warm, breathable, and washable.
I put ties in about every 6-8 inches using a darning needle and embroidery floss. Sometimes I will use yarn, but that is a bear to get through the layers. I have leather thimbles to protect my fingers.

Thanks for all your opinions. I can see that Warm & Natural is the favorite. That's my first choice for quilts that are machine quilted. It's good to know that it's good for tied quilts too.

I have used low loft and the warm and natural both to tie.
