How much do you buy

Post by Grammy2 » Tue Jan 22, 2008 6:21 am

When you just happen to be at your LQS and see some fabric that you can't live without LOL ---how much do you buy. sometimes I see fabric I love but don't have a pattern in mind. I'm sometimes afraid that I will buy "too little" because What if later I wish I had more & can't find it.
What do you do?

In that case I usually buy 1/2 yard cuts to give me two fat quarters. I have been sorry though on a few occassions that I didn't buy more:)

If it's something that I absolutely love, I'll buy two yards. Otherwise, just FQ's.

If it is something that I just feel that I have to have, I will get 3 yds. Too many times I have bought 1 yd or less and then cannot find it anywhere later & need more of it. 3 yds has always gotten me through and had a little left over for the scrap bin.

I usally get a yard sometimes I need more but usally that is more than enough.
I need to try to have a pattern in mind before I go shopping from now on.

If it is a fabric that really "talks" to me I get three yards. Cause if you need it for a project you want to have enough. And I make a lot of quilts so the is the amount I would go for. Fat qtrs just doesn't cut it for me. Marge

It depends on what I think I "might" use it for. If it's something I like for a stack & whack then I make sure to get 8 repeats and then some for the border. If it's just a general purpose stash filler, and I happen to have a little extra money, 2 yards, other wise just 1. If it's something I'd consider using in the quilt and for the border I've started getting 4 yards -- but that's only if I have extra money. And if I'm feeling pinched, I'll only get a FQ.

I buy 3 yds. My mom once told me to get 3 yds and you can make just about any size quilt.
DON'T ask GP.....LOL she buys bolts of fabric and we know what her stash is like.

I usually get two or three yards... I try to find fabric to go with it at the same time and if I do I get two yards of each, but if I can't find anything I buy three yards..

Except for white.... I seem to buy a lot of white....

I'm in the 3 yards club. And I might buy 1/2 yards of fabric to go with it.
