Denim quilt with flannel

Hi all! Well I made my colored denim & corduroy quilt. Unfortunately, no pics for you (and it was beautiful)! The camera batteries were dead, and I tried with my camera phone, which distorted the colors. Anyway, I had to improvise - using flannel. I used stonewashed khaki, blue, black, green, grey and burgundy denims on the front. I had originally planned to use corduroys on the back in identical colors. However, corduroy only "rags" on two ends (and still not as raggy as denim or flannel), so I used corduroy on the back of every other block and then floral flannels on the remainder. I still used identical colors of the front, but chose the floral flannels in the same manner (using black flannel, green flannel, and brown flannel). I sewed them together in the same manner as my denim quilt (shown in photos on a previous post) the flannels and corduroys were in a diagonal pattern. Hence, each block was "framed" with a flannel so that there was plenty of "rag". I was pretty pleased with it. The one problem that I encountered was with the flannel. After washing the quilt 3 times, the flannel tended to get those little "balls". I think it was due to the heavier weight of the denim and corduroy. So I had to buy one of those little battery operated "defuzzers" or lint removers to trim off those. Otherwise, it turned out pretty and was appreciated by my niece and her new husband as their wedding present. Once again, it was difficult to get dried, because I had used cotton batting squares. It was queen size, and I'm now planning 2 twin size for Christmas presents (hard to even think of quilting when its 90 degrees outside). Anyway, hope this information helps those of you that might consider using corduroy or denim & flannel. BTW, when making the X on each block, I used the same color thread as the fabric. It was alot more steps by having to change the thread and bobbin color, but I liked it better than using a neutral thread. If I can talk the niece into taking a pic, I'll get that posted!

hi sunsup! I thought that I'd better give everyone an update of my project, since no one had used the corduroy in a rag quilt - and I felt that all should have a heads up on my experience with that! I still am hounding the niece for photos, but her life is much busier than mine!
