The Carol Doak system of paper piecing beats all. I will have to post my two blocks that I did of the New York Beauty. It has smaller slivers for the points....no wonder it took me so long. I will see if I can find them and post them.

happymrs....thanks for the link. Will have to look into that.
calicopuzzle...where did you find the Carol Doak New York Beauty pattern?
fowki....don't run away. It really is fun once you get the hang of it. Very simple, unless of course you get into the patterns with a gazillion pieces. I used to feel the same way about applique` until I bit the bullet and gave it a try. Now I love it, although I have a long, long way to go; expecially with needle turn.

Fowki
I agree with what was said, give it a try, something small, & you will probably like it. In this particular block, just the one curved row, with the triangles, is paper pieced, so it's not hard at all & a good block to try it out on. Good luck & let us know if you decide to try it!

Re: Has anyone made a New York Beauty?
I have made new york beauties as part of other blocks in quilts but never a whole quilt of them - they are not complicated if you just remember to break them down and make sure that you have contrast and your prints do not have the exact same color as what is going next to them to keep from color bleed

I didn't mean Carol Doak's New York Beauty, I meant that the Doak method of paper piecing was the best I have seen. Here is a link to some New York Beauty blocks you might like to see. Some of the information may be in Swedish, but I got it from a quilter friend that taught our workshop.
This has some beautiful blocks and finished quilts to see.

calicopuzzle - Those are beautiful. I think you should do an entire quilt. It would be stunning!
