Buying stash fabric?

it depends on where you shop if I go to local quilt shop it is usually between 5.99 to 8.99 a yard - if I drive a couple hours to huge fabric warehouse same fabric is between 3.99 and 5.99 a yard
chain stores can be a little less but you have to watch the quality
on line can be extremly competative but then you have to watch the shipping have seen some places where freight = fabric purchase a no brainer to not buy there - best way I think for online is to just buy enough to qualify for free shipping like at qiad

Quilterbee - you don't have to put it on the shelf! Just send some my way. How I wish I could do that. Spendt $100 today on fabric for a Pink Lemonaide and feel guilty.

thats sort of what I pay at a large homewares shop about 3 hours drive from here but the quality is very ordinary and sometimes its downright sh*t.It is the only place that I can buy batting for a reasonable price. Don't go there very often though,only when I have no other choice.

Oh, Kadie, you can buy from QIAD and other places on line and get excellent fabric but I'm wondering about your shipping charges. Does that run the price up so much that it doesn't pay to shop on line? You have to pay an awful lot for quality fabric there.

The order I got the other day of books etc cost me $41.60 (American) for freight. The order itself cost $69.90. So I'm not sure whether its worth my while for fabric. I'll have to think on it a bit.
Don't get me wrong. I'm not complaining . I haven't seen the books anywhere over here and the quality of everything is outstanding. I'll definitely be ordering more books.

Kadie, I'm so with you when it comes to these calculations! I have however used the internet quite a lot lately, because quilt quality fabric in the stores here in Sweden costs somewhere around 30 dollars per meter (which is a yard plus a few inches...), is rarely if ever on sale, and is really very hard to find! I've only been able to locate two quilt stores so far in the whole of Sweden, which is an area slightly bigger than the whole state of California!!! In one of the two quilt stores, the staff is furthermore very unfriendly, which leaves me with only one LQS in the whole country!

So, with places like QIAD, where fabric is around 4 dollars a yard, it really pays off for me to order fabric from the US even with the high shipping costs for international packages... And, I absolutely love the unbelieavably nice and friendly QIAD customer service! I just love shopping from QIAD!

Also, in addition to QIAD, I've found another place (http://www.aaaquilterssupply.com/'>http ... upply.com/) in the US where fabric is less than 4 dollars a yard, and that ships the fabric in something called USPS "Flat Rate Mailing Envelope for domestic and international use", which seems to generally cost less than the shipping used by QIAD, and the orders arrive here really quick (normally within 5-6 days, compared to 2-4 weeks from other companies in the US). The lady who runs the business seems to have quite a few international customers for this reason...

Homespun - that's great. I'm glad you found a good place and you're sharing with Kadie. Like I said before I am very fortunate to live near a big city and there is numerous quilt shops I can go to. The prices are basically the same everywhere in the Houston area. I give you both a pat on the back for continuing on with your quilting even though you have a fabric acquisition hardship - LOL. Whew boy, did you see those fancy words??? LOL LOL LOL

I think Kadie and Homespunmary both need to plan a trip to Paducah next April with two empty suitcases to fill with wonderful $4 fabric!!!!!
