I was at JoAnn's one day and I had ordered my fabric and there was another inch on the piece, she said I could get half off for the inch. I thought a quilt store would give you the inch. I said, "No thank you," and she cut it off.

I can't really blame the clerk. They are tested once a month on their cutting. I think JoAnn's needs to work more on customer relations.

If you go to the show in Paducah and you stop in at El's tent you will get a more than generous yard. I figure you can't sell the tail of the dog if you don't have the dog. I cut really nice yards. Eleanor told she wants people to leave happy and satisfied.

Your clerk should have TOLD you that it was not a full yard.

Hi May. Welcome. You will find this a very informative forum and at times it's down right hilarious. So chime right in. Tell us what quilts you have done, post pictures, what you are working on now, etc. Again, welcome.

joanns definatly needs to work on their employee situation - we have two here in town - they are the unhappiest people I have ever encountered and it comes accross with their customer service - can't help but wonder if it is a company thing

I have 3 LQS that are close and all of them give a generous cut because they assume you are going wash it before using so that allows for shrinkage and uneven cuts. I think at the LQS because they understand the concepts are so much easier to work with. I have been to chain stores where the person cutting the fabric is a 19 boy who doesn't know the first thing about anything in the shop. I would like to be told if the cut was short.

About the only thing we purchase at Joann's anymore is notions, craft items for kids at church, hunting fabric, blades, netting for the strawberries, and maybe a pattern if they are on sale. I usually wait for my coupon or I don't go at all. The majority of the fabric is really not worth my time. I don't like to wash it, then hours ironing it, when the LQS is so much more enjoyable to work with.
But, you should have been told. I probably would march it right back to the counter and leave it there. Sorry--it just doesn't make it. Thanks to El and others at QIAD we can get wonderful material. Our trip to Paducah was worth the material that we purchased.

This happened at Hancocks. But, I've noticed that they do the same thing at Joann's.
