Gardenquilter. . . .

Don't be afraid to use flannel. Like I said in the PM just use the better/denser flannel and you will have a very nice quilt.

The first 2 quilts are ALL flannel, back and front, the Madagascar is both. The center pic is cotton and the rest is flannel.

Try it, You'll Like it!!!!

Gardenquilter.....

Here is a bigger image so you can check out the seams better. The batting will take care of any bulk you are thinking about. I just press with steam and a hot iron (maybe spritz with water) to flatten them.

Flannels are great to work with - just remember they shrink more, and you probably should use a bit longer stitch with them (2.5 - 3). If you are having it longarmed and your backing is flannel, be sure to add at least 10inches to your length due to how easily that looser weave my unravel.

There is nothing softer than a flannel quilt! (okay, maybe Minkee)

Qltsbme. . . .

I agree, I love to work with flannel in the winter. Gardenquilter hasn't tried it yet. Trying to help her to go for it.

I made my daughter a "textured" quilt using silk, velvet, brocade, corduroy, cotton velveteen, satin and rayon.Used stabeliser on all but the cotton. It was a crazy quilt around the outside with large blocks of the textured material in the middle. Then in metallic thread I hand embroidered butterflys, lizard, frogs, spiderwebs etc onto the large blocks. She was away at University at the time and wanted me to embroider whatever I could see from my sewing chair on the verandah as she was homesick. Most of the fabric was bought at used clothing shops that she and I had found on the 7 hour trips from home to Uni.I think it's as uglyas but she loves it.

I only use 100% cotton or flannel on occasion
