Well, I chickened out and went with a straight edge - I wasn't sure that the scallops would look right because they would cut into the blocks I had in the corners even though the sides have wide, solid borders. I did find an interestin method that said you should draw the scallops, sew the binding on, and then cut away the fabric to prevent stretching. It made sense, but I have yet to try it.

Well, from what I remember, you always want to have an odd number of scallops, say 5 or 7, so you would divide your side length by whichever of those you choose, and when marking your quilt, you always want to start at the corners and work your way towards the middle. You can fudge a little if you need to in the center of the sides, but you have to have your corners perfect. Always mark and apply your bias binding BEFORE cutting away the excess fabric!!! Ask me how I know this!!! My biggest problem was trying to figure out what to do when I came to the bias when I got to the little "peaks". Well, nothing special. Just hit the peak, pivot and start back down. Be sure not to stretch your bias so it will lay nice and flat when you turn it to the backside. You won't have any problem. Good luck.
