what?

Post by kho » Thu Apr 04, 2013 9:16 am

I was reading an article in a magazine about using stash and how to match it together. Some of it she put together because she said it had the same level of saturation? Ok, so I could see how the backgrounds were similar and am wondering if that is what she meant. Anyone else know?

depth of the color - I have a ruler - it is pink and when you use it - all the color of what you are looking at through it, disappears and all you see is the depths of the colors.

I too read that article on what goes together - some times I listen to the rules and other times I break them - just do as I please! I can be a rebel! LOL

Jana, When you say depth of color do you mean values? I have seen red things that you look at the fabric with and it takes the color away and you can see what is called values of color. Would this be what you are talking about? Thanks

The red thing is called a "Ruby Beholder". Don't have one but I hear they work great.

Another quick way to check saturation is to take a photo with your smart phone then convert it to black/white. I have the red tool too but when shopping I use the phone and compare fabrics. Great way to get the light/med/dark saturation without being distracted by color

Great tips, you should add them to the thread in "Chit Chat".

I have a black & white printer/copier. When I'm trying to determine value and have difficulty, I will put the fabrics on the copier and make a black & white copy...
