quilted letters

Post by quiltingangel » Sun Aug 28, 2011 9:06 am

Hello Ladies, I am not sure how to explain this, but I will try. I am looking for a pattern or some information on how to make the puffy looking letters, (childs name) that are usually used to decorate the wall in a childs room. Thank you for any information.

There are two ways I can think of - the first is that in one of the major pattern book companies - McCall's or Simplicity had some of these letters that you sewed and stuffed -

The second way - is that you cover with batting and fabric the wooden letters that you can find in the crafts stores - real simple - use temporary spray adhesive to hold the batting in place - use as many layers to achieve the thickness you want - cut the batting just slightly bigger that the letter -

then cut the fabric big enough to turn under to the back - clipping the curves that my be in the letters you are needing and either staple them down or hot glue the fabric to the back. Pull the fabric nice and smooth over the batting until you get the look you want -

Done - to hang them on the wall you can buy picture hangers or I have used the ring part of a pop-top soda can - just pull it off the can and use a nail to secure it into place on the back.

Hope that these two ideas may jump start your project!

Jana, thank you so much! I did find a McCalls pattern at JoAnns this week-end on sale for 99 cents.
