Pattern for travel Patches

I have many travel sew on patches that I want to make into a wall hanging quilt. I am new to quilting and would like any help on how to do this.

Oh what fun that will be -

I would place the patch on a background fabric to use as part of a block - you could vary the sizes of the background fabric - (fabrics) - mix and match them - add strips around the blocks - set them on point - and have lots of fun playing with them!

I would attach the patch with a ziz-zag stitch to the fabric. I would stitch it - as I call it - one stitch on the patch - the other side of the stitch on the fabric - back and forth - and use a tear-away stabilizer on the back side - to reduce the puckering. I use this technique in sewing on Scout Patches to uniforms. The stitch length can be fairly long - 4 or 5 on a computerized machine. Just make the width just wide enough to go over that satin edge of the patch. You could match the thread to the color of each patch or the simple way is to use a invisible thread - that is how I do the scout patches.

You might want to look at some of the T-shirt quilts for ideas and layouts - but just make it smaller for a wall hanging.

Quilt in a Day has a book "Stockings and Small Quilts" that you might find helpful. It has several small quilts illustrated and wonderful, easy to follow directions that are very descriptive and suitable for a newer quilter. Jana's help for sewing your patches on is excellent. Good luck, sounds like a fun project.
