Re: Tips for orgainizing quilt rooms
I purchased a put together CD storage rack at my local big box store. I have a lot of fat quarters and if you use a 6 by 24 ruler and fold your fat quarters around the width of the ruler and then in have again, they fit perfectly into the rack. I arranged mine rack by colors and styles. It's great when I walk into my sewing room and that is one of the first things you see. It gives me inspiration and helps me deter from purchasing more unnecessary fabric (like there is such a thing). But it works fine for me.

Re: Tips for orgainizing quilt rooms
Well, before the flood last fall, I had shelves hanging on the wall. I stored one color in each 4 gal/15L clear totes. They are not big totes, but easy to move around and look through. Have some bigger for large fleece or flannel. Besides color, I also had some marked for Christmas, Kids, Fat Quarters, Kits, and such. Use LIDS on totes!! Learned that the hard way with Feb. water problem.
I had planned, but haven't got to it, to make a binder with pages for each totes that would have a small piece of fabric from each one in that tote. That way I figure I can look in the binder, find a fabric, go to that tote and pull it. Maybe when my sewing room is reconstructed, I can get to this.
I will watch this thread for ideas.
