I made a tote bag and a table runner using the cotton theory medthod, once I understood the highways and one way streets I was good.
The book makes it sound harder than it is, the directions are clear and pretty easy to understand. The nice thing about this method is that it is reversible. In her 2nd book she shops you how to do a quilt from bom's (like I don't have any of them) which is really nice.

I took a class with Betty Cotton in Madison last year. It looks really hard and the first project you make is kinda hard, but it gets easier after that. We made place mat and no we didn't finish it in the 3 hours, but pretty much learned everything we needed to know to finish it at home. You do need her scissors in order to cut through all the layers of fabric and good, sharp, thin pins to pin all the layers, but like she says, when the quilt is done you are done. No need to wrestle a big quilt under the little sewing machine throat. I think the hardest part doing a quilt with her technique would be the final seams. But, get the book and try the placemat or the table runner and see if you like it. I have talked to other people and they don't like her technique at all and others just love it and have adjusted their quilt making to accomodate her technique.

I took a class using the cotton theory, and made a table runner. Patterns for this method are very limited. carol

I just wanted to take a minute to thank everyone for the sites and comments. I figure if I can't learn how to quilt on the go from all the suggestions and sites, I have a real problem! Thanks everyone!
