Ovarian cancer/turning 20 lap quilt

Post by Chrissy1 » Fri Oct 10, 2008 4:28 am

We just found out that a very sweet lady in our community (not to mention our daughter's neighbors sister) has ovarian cancer. Normally I would make her a fleece love knots blanket, but I thought I would really like to make her a turning twenty. I have only made one and thorougly enjoyed making it (tons of mistakes and all). I would like to make it lap size so that she can take it to her treatment. She is a very petite lady. Would anyone have any suggestions as to how many blocks I should use? Color ideas? Should I do flannel on the back? The number of different fabrics. On the one I did I used 3 prints and then a green that was sort of patterned (I am so sorry I don't have the proper names of the fabrics) but gave the appearance of a more solid. Bordered it with a solid pink Thank you so much for any advise or help.

There is a line of fabrics that is for Ovarian cancer. It's manufactered by a company called Blank Textiles, the collection is Inspiration. I found it on www.virginiaquilter.com but I am sure other websites have it as well. It's beautiful teal green & white.
Good luck.

I try to use flannel on the back of any quilt that is to be used for comfort. I would definitely go for the flannel. The line of fabrics for Ovarian cancer is gorgeous, it would be very appropriate to use some in the quilt you are going to make. I think a percentage of the money goes to the charity also.

One thing that you might think about is the total weight of the quilt - My mom liked a warm quilt, but it needed to be light weight - Someone going thru treatment gets to be frail quickly. What a wonderful, thoughtful gift you will make!!
