Take 5 Quilt Instructions
Can anyone give me the Take 5 directions? I can figure out the cutting OK, and I know you put two 4" squares together, and sew one 4" to the 8" strip, but then what? It looks like a really nice, quick quilt.

I have to look at the pattern layout everytime I make a Turning Five. It would be a lot easier to understand if you look at the layout instead of reading how. At least for me it is.

I don't know about the "Turning 5" but here is how I figured out the "Tossed 9". If you come up with a visual tutorial, please post it for us.
I made up this picture for someone else that had asked me about this pattern. After you sew them together, You cut on the lines (bias tape laid out). Keeping in mind your center block being a focal point. Also the 4 corner squares will stay whole so this is where I put my theme or more patterned pieces. And the pieces/corners that have the blue spots on them should blend well as they will stay together after you make the cut. Then you will have 4 separate blocks to twist and turn any way you like.

I have "Take 5", an absolute favorite for a quick quilt. You need 5 fabrics that play well together. From each fabric you need 4 8 1/2" squares, 4 8 1/2 x 4 1/2" rectangles and 12 4 1/2" squares.
Lay out the big square. Lay a 4 1/2" square nect to the top right side. Then lay an 8 1/2" x 4 1/2 rectangle under the little square alineing the 4 1/2" sides, it will extend below the bottom of the big square. Then lay 2 4 1/2" squares under the big square. Now you have a bigger square. Mix and match and sew the bigger squares together any way you like.
Good luck, have fun. Sandy
ps She lays all 5 fabrics on top of each other and cuts them all at once, swaps a few layers then sews.

Thanks, Sunsup. It sounds like it will be as fun and interesting as the "Disappearing Nine Patch", which I love because it looks so much more complicated than it really is.

The take 5 doesn't look as complicated, but it sure goes together fast.
Have fun!

Thank you for posting the tutorial, Sewbug! It's SO much easier to figure out with a picture!
