backing and borders
Do you have to have a matching fabric on back? I was going to do prairie points and I was going to put applique on the back.
Thanks
Kathy

Kathy, there are no quilt police!
You go ahead and put WHAT you want, WHERE you want!
I have never seen a "Rule Book" for quilters, and if there actually is one, it should be banned!
Have fun and make YOUR quilt YOUR way!

On the back of your quilt you can use what you want. I even pieced together the left over fabric from the front and used it on the back. Anything goes. thats the best part of quilting, being creative. Go for it. Marge

Thank heaven there are no quilt police!!! I agree with the others. It is your quilt back it with what ever you want!! Sometimes I use white, sometimes I use wild fabric, sometimes the leftovers from the top. You and the quilt top will find the right backing.

Re: backing and borders
I try to have fun with my backing. It usually doesn't go with the front at all. One log cabin quilt has Two Elvis panels for the backing. I do keep the binding matching the front. One pink and blue flora has green grass with frogs on the back. I don't do plain or solid color backings. Too boring when there are many great fun prints to choose from. Even a serious quilt gets a scaled down fun print for the backing.

Tigger, I think you will like the prairie points. I made a quilt earlier in the year and finished it with prairie points. Used some of the leftovers from the top.

Kathy I did praie points on one of my quilts and if your sending it out to the LA they might not want to quilt it for you but if your going to do them make enough for pillow cases.

Re: backing and borders
I thought the prairie points were added after the quilting, along with the binding. So the LA quilter wouldn't care. Or would she?
I'm confused.

Re: backing and borders
I've added prairie points to both the finished quilt (lay them out, cover with binding and stitch, flip binding all the way to the back and stitch down) and to those that are "birthed". I've never had a problem either way.

Re: backing and borders
the rule on this is to do what you think looks best and makes you happy - I do all different things to the back of my quilts - as a long arm quilter i will tell you it could be done with the prarie points on but will not be easy - will require a bit more work loading and floating the top
