question regarding batting
I had posted 2 picts of some quilt tops to machine quilt last week -- and today went and purchased some batting to use so I could get started. I purchased batting that said "Heirloom" batting, (did not read the label close enough at the quilt shop!!) and it said it would give an antique look, and also shrink some. Do you think this would be OK to use -- or should I return and get a different kind of batting? I really don't want my quilts to look antique looking, but wanted a thin batting since I am attempting to do these in my sewing machine. Any suggestions would be so appreciated. thank you

Re: question regarding batting
If you don't want the puckering that comes with shrinkage, I wouldn't use that. I never prewash, I LIKE that look. it tends to hide alot of my mistakes.

Re: question regarding batting
I would at least pre-wash the batting if you still want to use it. That will help take out that antique look. I always pre-wash whatever batting I use, just an old habit from 92 years ago! LOL, not quite 92! Of course, I pre-wash all my fabric as well. I've just been "biten" the very few times I didn't, so now I always do.
Probably others will have some suggestions of brands to use.

Re: question regarding batting
have a friend who only uses heirloom batting and loves it i have never noticed her quilts looking bad - all batting is going to shrink a smidge - i have not prewashed batting and dont plan on it i prefer warm and natural which also gives a nice flat look
go to their website and look at examples to see for yourself

Re: question regarding batting
I don't pre-wash the batting...and I use Warm & Natural batting. It is nice and gives a nice flat smooth look to the quilt. It isn't too thick and I like it a lot.
