Wool batting
I love the look and feel of a quilt with wool batting. I don't like how much it shrinks up the quilt. Can I wash and dry wool batting before putting it in a quilt or will I wind up with a big ball of wool when it comes out of the dryer?

Well DUH - I'll go home and read the package. A friend just told me she washes hers but doesn't put them in the dryer at all. That will never work with the twins quilts. My DD will have 4 kids and really won't have time to be pampering quilts. I'm thinging I'll just use an 80/20 batting but it sure doesn't feel and drape like wool. Oh, well, give and take.

Well you sure don't want to use Bamboo unless you want the crinkled, wrinkled look of an antique quilt. It does shrink at least 5%. Much more than Wool. A quilt we just did was 96X96 then we washed it to see how much Bamboo shrunk. It was 91X90 afterward and all crinkly, wrinkled. Which was ok for this particular quilt.

I didn't know the bamboo shrank that much. Deffinately something to keep in mind.
Cindy, you might want to save the wool batting idea for their graduagion or wedding quilts. Did you think these were the only quilts you would ever make for them? LOL

Sunsup - if I live long enough I'll be making all my grandkids more quilts. I just don't have the time - hard to believe I made Gavin's baby quilt 12 years ago and now he just about needs an adult quilt. I'd love to make him a baseball quilt. Time sure flies.
