laptop bag pattern?
I bought some great fabric (isn't all fabric great?) for my D and asked her what she would like me to make with it. She wants a bag for her laptop. Have any of you come across a good pattern for a padded laptop bag? I have found totes but not ones that are designed for laptops. I will probably end up drafting my own but it would be easier if I didn't have too

Look at the "Professional Tote" at www.creativethimble.com
I made one and a laptop would fit in it. It is not real padded, though it has Decor-Bond (I think by Pellon) to stabilize it, so it is not floppy soft.

The City Bag
I bought this pattern to use for a laptop bag for my daughter. I know the size will work, and I think it will be easy to add some extra padding. Keep in mind, I've not actually made this yet, so I am only speculating.
You'll need to scroll down on this page to see it.

I just bought a pattern for one that is specifically for a Laptop. I got it at Joannes when patterns were a buck. It is

That is what I am going to make my daughter for Christmas 2008. I am also a garment sewer so I have no trouble with Simplicity patterns.

MDQuilta, I was looking at the same pattern at Hancocks the other day. I think that would make a great bag for my daughter too, I just need to wait till they go on sale again.

Re: laptop bag pattern?
Make plenty of little inserts for things in the bag. My daughter wanted her cell phone on the outside, so a pocket went there. I just looked at Lands End catalog and made my own pattern. My DD also wanted a should strap that would stay up with more width at the shoulder than the other area. So, you can put things on that you want.I made the should strap,so it could come off also. You can get very creative. Have fun making it. Don't wait until the last minute to make it for a special ocasion. It does take time. You can also purchase a good leather one for about $100.

Re: laptop bag pattern?
thanks for the input. My D has a great bag but she likes to be "fashionable" and wants to be able to trade off bags. I think I will use a couple of patterns that I have and make a trial pattern. She has a small macbook so the size is about the same as a purse. I need to clarify and see if she wants a bag or a laptop cozy. kinda like this one I gave to my BIL
