I am in the 2-3yd club. If I love it I buy more. If I think it will make a good backing I buy even more. I like to buy fabrics that coordinate.

I work very hard not to buy....

Happy Quilting.....Kathy

Well, today's experience says I buy 3 yards. What can I say. After dinner with my quilting buddies, I stopped by Hancock Fabrics. This is not the store I ususally go to. They had some of their novelty fabrics at 50% off. I got a cute Robert Kaufman cat print to use in a quilt. I'm thinking border and backing -- using the split seam method. Now, to figure out what the blocks look like....

I buy what my pattern calls for plus a little extra...don't want to come up short....I usually get 3 - 4 yards of fabric if it one I really love and want to use in a quilt that I don't have a pattern for...My friends and I share our "stash" so it is nice to have extra fabric on hand. I try not to buy "tons" of fabric at a time though.

Me too.... 2-3 yards--at least. When I shop at QIAD which I do A LOT I always get a minimum of 2 years... if there's only 3 yards left I take it alll, because I figure they'd like to get it out of their warehouse!! LOL Right Linda????

I bought the fabric for DIL's quilt and I don't know if I cut wrong or what but I'm short on the background fabric.... Need enough for the last outside strips of the Pink Lemonade pattern. Went back to the LQS where I got and all they had left was 1 lousy FQ!!! I grabbed it anyway, but I still don't think I'll have enough. So I picked up some other coordinating fabric and I think I'm going to have to fudge the row before the 1st border. I think it will look fine, just won't look like the picture in El's book!!
And I don't even have a selvage piece to know what it was so look for it anywhere else. Woe is me!!

Generally I never have a pattern in mind when I see fabric I really want, and of course need. I have bought up to 4 yards---just to make sure
