Quilt Tips and Terms

Post by teacupdelights » Sun Nov 11, 2007 4:28 pm

Here is a link for a great listing of Quilt Tips and Terms from QuiltBus

http://www.quiltbus.com/Quilt-Terms.htm

It also has good info about how to get better quality graphics on the net, and links further explaining or giving examples of terms and videos.

Plus humorous little definitions like: Bare Feet - a device for finding pins in a carpet :)

This will be helpful to newbies too.

teacup, thanks for the info. What a great site. I have mostly new quilters in my prayer quilt group and this has some great info I can pass on to them.
Thanks for sharing

I'm just starting to sew quilts and I was wondering if I needed to zig zag finish the edges on all the seams?

I have two of those gadgets for finding pins in the carpet and believe me they are excellent! I use mine every day and today found that they are really good for finding needles also. There is just one thing I recommend and that is to always keep a selection of band aids in the sewing room because they have one small malfuntion, they will leave small bood stains on the carpet. lol Kay

After thought. My "gadgets" are of a rather large size. I recommend if you have any control over the situation you might want to get smaller ones.If not, just grin and bear it.

Dear Mlinkogle, It sounds like you have just started your quilting venture. No - absolutely not - no one pinks the edges of the seams - the seams are ironed usually to one side - and then these seams are buried with batting and backing and lots of quilting on top of the finished layers - so that the seam edges receive very little abrasive wear. Please get yourself a good quilting book. Eleanor Burns has many good beginner books.

Sorry - I meant to say zig zag - or any other kind of finish - absolutely not.
