I have an embarassing amout of fat quarters, I find them irresistable. Other than that I buy for projects as I do them. Still I have a hugh stash, I just move it all. I give scraps to a friend who paper pieces. Also schools north of me took lots of fabric I knew I'd never use.

Most of my stash has grown from fabric left over from completed projects. If it's fabric I really like, or if it's versatile, I may buy more than the recommended amount for a pattern. It's fairly rare that I will buy fabric without a project already in the planning stages.

I usually buy 3 yards. WHY? I don't know. LOL.....Well, actually because my mom said that is what she buys when she gets fabric. But as all of you know.......ya never have enough to make a quilt! Always have to buy more!

If it's a great sale,I always buy as much as I can, which is usually all they have available! Then I blame it on my husband, because he keeps buying me stackable shelving units, with deep drawers in them(I hope he never catches on that I just keep buying more since I have so much storage). It's a standard joke in my local fabric shop that it's all HIS fault I buy so much!
