For new quilts I make I love to go funky with printed fabric, I never use a fabric that is in the top of the quilt. For old tops I purchase I like to go with plane colors close to what's on the top they look more vintage that way.

Many of my customers use big blocks of the fabric that is in the quilt top. They piece them together to make a funky back. It really does look nice.

There is an author whom I saw on Simply Quilts a long while ago, and she showed how to make the back just as pretty as the front. Also, got ideas from Eleanor's programs when she shows the back of Sue Bouchard's quilts.
So, I am sold on using the left over fabrics on the back. I will shortly show you a quilt I just completed for my youngest daughter using the same fabric on front and back.

Calicopuzzle, I am praying for you & your DH during this process you are going through. This is hard on you as well. Bless your heart. Please keep us updated on DH's treatments and progress. I have a dear friend that went through this with her DH. It was hard on them both. Tell DH to keep positive thoughts & know that ya'll are being prayed for.

My DH's last radiation treatment will be on Monday. He has done so well through all 33 of them. He drove the 167.7 miles every day and felt fine...no pain. Now he has a catch in his throat so he chokes often and then it hurts when he coughs too much...but he is almost done. Then he will return to the throat specialist near our home for a scope exam of his larynx and see if the tumor is gone...this will be repeated often until they stretch out the check ups. Thank you all so much for prayer...we both believe that that is the only reason he did not need any pain medication as they said he would..He has been pain free through the whole series of tretments and did not lose his voice as they thought he would through the 6 weeks. Praise the Lord! And thank you all who helped us by your encouragement and prayer. You are such good new friends!

We are thinking of and praying for him as he continues and is almost finished with the treatments. We are going through this with my brother. My husband is a 6 year survivor and is completely free. He has his yearly checkups, and all is clear so far.
I love the minkee, but I also love flannel. The trouble with it is I feel like it needs to be washed several times to get the shrinkage out of it no matter what the cost of flannel is. It seems to always shrink. The minkee is so soft and wonderful and does not seem to shrink. I don't know anyone that has this material doesn't feel cuddely or loved with it. Just rubbing it is soothing. So, we use it alot. The cost is worth it.

Re: What is your favorite quilt backing choice?
My long arm quilter says she just loves it when I come in with a quilt because she likes my backs. (Maybe I should put them unside down on the bed, she nevers says much about the fronts!) I usually try to pick something related to the quilt. Some examples: I made a soccer theme quilt and used a fabric that looked sorta like those square things on a soccer ball, for my thimbleberries "Trip around the World" I used one of the fabrics from the front. For wall hangings I usually just use muslin. I made another "Trip Around The World" out of 1800 prints of various blues and used another 1800 blue for the back. It is all in what appeals to you or what you think the recipient (sp?) would like.
