Quilt in a Day Forums

My friend and I are working on the modern migration quilt. We have no problem with any of the flying geese except the 1 3/4 x 3. We used the squares listed in the book but they were not even close. What ruler do you used to square them up? I watched the you tube videos but that size was not demonstrated. HELP!!!
